Building your Own Momentum!
Life can feel like pushing a boulder up a hill
Hello, My Joyful Game-Changers!
Welcome to another vibrant edition of Jon's Journal of Joy, your weekly infusion of positivity from me, Jon The Encourager! I’m typing this with a grin, fresh off an attempt to “master” indoor gardening. Let’s just say my basil plant is staging a protest, and I’m pretty sure it’s whispering, “Water me properly, Jon!” But instead of sulking, I’m laughing it off and celebrating the fact that I’m trying something new. That’s the spirit we’re embracing today—finding joy in the journey, even when it’s a little messy!
This week, I want to dive into building your own momentum. Life can sometimes feel like pushing a boulder uphill—work piles up, energy dips, and motivation plays hide-and-seek. But here’s the good news: you don’t need a massive burst of energy to get moving. Momentum starts with one small, intentional action, and before you know it, you’re rolling toward your goals with a smile. It’s like starting a campfire—one spark can ignite a blaze.
I recently heard from a reader named Aisha, who was feeling stuck in a rut. She wanted to get healthier but felt overwhelmed by the idea of “overhauling” her lifestyle. Instead of diving into a strict diet or intense gym routine, she started with a 10-minute walk each evening. That small habit grew into longer walks, then adding some light strength training, and now she’s feeling stronger and more energized than she has in years. That first step created a ripple effect, proving that momentum builds when you just begin.
You’ve got that same power. Whether it’s tackling a work project, nurturing a relationship, or chasing a personal dream, start with something small. Write one sentence of that book you’ve been dreaming about. Send a quick text to check in on a friend. Do five push-ups or swap one soda for water. These tiny actions stack up, and soon you’ll be amazed at how far you’ve come. Momentum isn’t about speed—it’s about consistency and believing in your ability to keep going.
Joyful Tip of the Week: Try the “Two-Minute Start” trick. Pick one goal you’ve been putting off and commit to working on it for just two minutes. Want to declutter? Sort one drawer. Need to study? Read one page. The goal is to break the inertia—once you start, you’ll often keep going. Track these mini-wins in a notebook or app to see your momentum grow over the week.
This community—you incredible humans—is what makes this newsletter shine. Your stories from last week had me cheering out loud, like Mark’s triumph of fixing his bike and riding it for the first time in years, or Lena’s quiet victory of saying “no” to an overwhelming commitment. Keep sharing! Reply to this email and tell me one small action you took this week that felt like a step forward. I’ll highlight a few (with your permission) in our next edition to keep the momentum rolling for everyone.
Let’s spread the joy like wildfire! If you know someone who could use a nudge of encouragement, forward this newsletter to them! For a fun challenge, try a “Momentum Maker”: do one kind act this week to boost someone else’s day, like complimenting a coworker or helping a neighbor with a small task. Share your story with me—I’d love to hear how you’re sparking positivity!
You’re a force of nature, building momentum with every choice you make. Keep starting, keep moving, and know that I’m right here, cheering you on with all my heart.
Love,
Jon
